Alright, let’s talk about this Real Sociedad and Mallorca soccer match, or whatever them young folks call it these days. I don’t know much about fancy footwork, but I can tell you if somethin’s lively or not.
So, they’re gonna play on September 17th, that’s what they said. Seventeen, like when I had my first calf… never mind that story. Anyways, it’s at 5:00 PM, which is suppertime, but I guess them fellas gotta work too. They’re playing at that Estadi de Son Moix place, in Palma city. Sounds fancy, huh? Probably got more lights than the whole town I grew up in.
Real Sociedad versus Mallorca. Sounds like a fight, doesn’t it? Like two roosters in a pen. But instead of peckin’ each other, they kick a ball. Don’t ask me why. Eurosport is gonna show it, whatever that is. Probably one of them newfangled TV things. We used to just listen to the radio, back in my day. Folks shouting about scores, you had to use your imagination. Now you get to see everythin’, even the sweat on their brows, I bet.
They got this thing called “live text commentary.” Sounds like someone’s gonna be yappin’ the whole time, tellin’ you what’s happenin’. Like old Mrs. Higgins at the bingo night, except about soccer instead of B-12 and O-75. I reckon it’s helpful if you can’t see the game, though. Or if you just like listenin’ to someone talk, which, Lord knows, some folks do.
One time they played, and it ended up 1-1. A tie, they call it. Like kissin’ your sister, no real winner. The Mallorca fans were happy, though, screamin’ and hollerin’. Seems like they got a fella named Morlanes who got a free kick. Don’t know what that means, but it sounds important. Like gettin’ an extra piece of pie at the church social.
- Goal! Real Sociedad 1(2). That means they scored, right? Twice, maybe? See, this is why I stick to gardenin’. At least with tomatoes, you know what you’re gettin’.
- Goal! Real Sociedad 1. So they scored once here, too. Maybe it was a different game? These fellas play a lot, seems like. More than they work in the fields, I’ll tell ya that.
They played another time, back in October of 2023. Soccerway, they call it. Sounds like a road, but I guess it’s a website or somethin’. They got all sorts of languages on there, even Chinese! Can you believe it? Those little fellas all the way across the ocean watchin’ the same game as us. Well, maybe not “us,” I’m usually asleep by then.
They mention somethin’ called “La Liga” and “Copa del Rey.” Sounds important, like some kind of fancy tournament. Probably got a big shiny cup at the end, like the one they give out at the county fair for the biggest pumpkin. And they mention these fellas, lvaro Granel and Jos Garca. Probably players. Young bucks, runnin’ around, kickin’ that ball. I bet their mamas are proud.
Anyway, that’s the gist of it, as far as I can tell. Real Sociedad, Mallorca, kickin’ a ball, September 17th, 5:00 PM. If you like that sort of thing, tune in, I guess. Me, I’ll probably be waterin’ my petunias. They’re less confusing than soccer, and they smell a whole lot nicer.
So, what do you need to know to watch this game? Well, you need to know the time, that 5:00 PM thing. And where they are playing, that Palma city place. And who is playing – Real Sociedad and Mallorca. That’s about all I can tell ya. The rest is just a bunch of hootin’ and hollerin’ and kickin’, far as I’m concerned.
Is it important? Well, it is to them fellas playin’ and to the folks watchin’. Kinda like how growin’ a good crop of beans is important to me. It is all what you value, I suppose. Just don’t ask me to explain the rules. I got enough trouble keepin’ track of my chickens, let alone all them fellas runnin’ around on a field.
One last thing: remember this Real Sociedad and Mallorca game is happening on September 17th. Don’t want you to miss it if you are so inclined. And if you do watch it, maybe you can explain it to me sometime. But use small words, alright?
