Well, let me tell ya, this athletics thing in India, especially for them young’uns under 14, it’s somethin’ else. These kids, they’re runnin’ and jumpin’ and throwin’ like nobody’s business. Makes this old lady tired just thinkin’ about it.
I heard tell of this boy, Kishu Singh from Bihar. Strong as an ox, that one. He threw that javelin thing, you know, the pointy stick, a whole 64.56 meters! Can you imagine? That’s like throwin’ a stick clean across a big ol’ field! Beat the old record by a mile, they say. Some other fella, Dhairya Alpenshbhai, held it before, but Kishu, he just blew it outta the water.
And then there’s the girls, ain’t no slouches neither. This Deepika gal from Haryana, she chucked that javelin 54.13 meters in the under-18 group. That’s another record, they say. Strong arms on these young’uns, gotta give ‘em that. Then there’s this Pooja from Haryana, jumpin’ high like a grasshopper. 1.76 meters they say. Higher than my clothesline, that’s for sure. Broke some record too, Pavana Nagaraj’s it was.
- Javelin throwin’
- High jumpin’
- Runnin’ like the wind
They got all sorts of records, you know. For runnin’ fast, for jumpin’ high, for throwin’ far. Makes your head spin tryin’ to keep track of it all. They got these big championships, the “open national athletic championships”, they call ‘em. Folks come from all over to watch these kids go at it. They got records for the old folks too, but I ain’t payin’ much attention to them. These youngsters, they’re the future, I tell ya.
I heard about another young’un, Avantika Narale from Maharashtra. Fast as a rabbit, she is. Set a new record in the 200-meter sprint. That’s runnin’ real fast, let me tell ya. And then there’s Sanchay K.R. Paul from West Bengal. That boy’s somethin’ special. Broke the record in the 100-meter dash, not once, but twice! Imagine that! Runnin’ so fast, he broke his own record! They say he “shattered” the records, like breakin’ a glass into a million pieces.
They got records for the boys and girls, all different ages. Under 14, under 16, under 18, and even older. They keep track of it all, who ran the fastest, who jumped the highest, who threw the farthest. They got these official record books, like the one they call “World Athletics”. They keep track of all the youngsters all over the world. But we’re talkin’ about India here, and these kids are somethin’ special, I tell ya. Strong and fast and determined. They make this old lady proud, even if I can’t hardly walk to the mailbox anymore.
They got records for the 100 meters, the 200 meters, the 300 meters, even the 400 meters. That Hima Das girl, she’s a fast runner too. And they got records for all kinds of stuff, not just runnin’. Jumpin’ and throwin’, like I said. It’s a whole lotta work, keepin’ track of it all, but somebody’s gotta do it. These kids, they deserve the recognition, workin’ hard as they do.
So that’s the story, as best as this old lady can tell it. These kids in India, they’re breakin’ records left and right. Runnin’ and jumpin’ and throwin’ like nobody’s business. Makes you wonder what they’ll do next. Maybe one day they’ll be runnin’ in the Olympics, representin’ India for the whole world to see. That’d be somethin’, wouldn’t it? Makes this old heart swell with pride, just thinkin’ about it.
